Remembering #ripscottweiland

This has nothing to do with the writing of science fiction, fantasy, or horror stories, but I'm sad and I can't sleep so I'm posting it anyway. For people like me, born in the late 70's and experiencing the 90's in a very real way, influenced by the music and culture of the time (or hopefully influencing those things) it is disheartening to see another amazing artist pass away. We've lost the Ramones, Gwar, Dimebag Darell, Layne Staley, Andrew Wood, Kurt Cobain and now Scott Weiland.

Another voice of the 90's has left the arena, and it is a damn shame. Scott Weiland was perhaps best know as the frontman for Stone Temple Pilots, but he also put together Velvet Revolver, a group he formed with pretty much the entire band from Guns and Roses except Axel (okay I'm exaggerating but not really). In STPs time they scored several No. 1 singles on the Billboard Rock Charts, including “Plush”, “Vaseline”, “Interstate Love Song”, and “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart”. With Velvet Revolver he released two full length albums 2004’s Contraband and 2007’s Libertad. Weiland won two Grammys: 1994’s Hard Rock Performance for STP’s “Plush” and 2005’s Hard Rock Performance for Velvet Revolver’s “Slither”. His bands have sold more than 45 million records worldwide.

And most recently he had formed another group, the Wildabouts. Sadly throughout his entire career Scott Weiland battled with drug and alcohol addiction. The news is not saying how he died yet, but overdose or not, years of abusing your body can never end well. He wasn't always perfect, no one is really, but he was one of our favorite grunge artists and his music will always live on in our hearts.
